About Us
Steve Nichols Marine Designs is the trading name of Nichols Holdings Pty Ltd. SNMD has been operating since the early 1990's and has extensive experience in the commercial vessel industry with the company's founder, having worked in the industry for the past 35 years.
Steve Nichols started his career as a boat builder apprenticed to the Maritime Services Board. He worked there for about 10 years building and repairing timber, FRP, aluminium and steel vessels.
Following this he commenced his naval architecture studies and moved to the Commercial Vessels Branch - Naval Architects Department of the Maritime Services Board where he carried out structural and stability approvals.
After a year with Australian Defense Industries Naval Architecture Quality Engineering
Department carrying out tests and trials he moved back to the commercial sector as
a Ship Surveyor for the Waterways Authority. Three years later he started his own
business and has been doing that for the last 18 years.
Stephen has sailed since he was eight years old and loves nothing better than to be offshore racing or at least to "be on the water and messing about in boats".
